EDIT by Iscaran: I have merged the posts from the other topic with your request thread.
The dxdiag is therefore found later as the first posts here were posted earlier in superpea's request topic and have been moved here.
Short link to dxdiag: http://forums.totalwar.com/showthread.php/7063-Empire-Total-War-Does-not-start?p=90575&viewfull=1#post90575
END of EDIT.

Im having the same issue;
So I bought the game yesterday, Installed from he disc, when i tried to launch the game nothing happens. steam dialog pops up telling me the game is being launched, the computer thinks for a sec, and then nothing.

I have a widescreen monitor so i tried to change its start up resolution, but there are no files in my script folder.

Then I installed downloading from steam, same thing happens.

The game doesn't not even load the title screen.

Is there anything i put in the launch option to start it windowed? but it doesn't look like its a resolution problem mainly becasue the engine doesn't initialize. The screen doest flicker to switch over to a full screen app or anything.

What error do you get ? anything related to DirectX versions ? I had this same problem with weird crashes, turns out I had to reinstall directx 9 because I was missing some DX 9 files.

I'm not getting any errors. The steam Dialog box appears and disappears likes it is going to launch, then my cursor shows something working in the back ground, then nothing happens. No additional dialog boxes pop up, nor does the game partially load then freeze. It just refuses to load. I just updated my Directx I have played some Dx11 games like Bioshock 2 with out a hitch to speak of.

I'll try re-installing the Nvidia components, and Directx.

and the C++ distributable executed during the game install so I don't think that is an issue.

    How about verifying games cache?

Did that, 2 installs from disc, and 2 downloads from steam. all verified cache integrities.

I don't see how the two different install sources are going to have the exact same problem.

Have you tried deleting the ClientRegistry.blob in your Steam folder?

Thats the first place I Checked. http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?p=20760804#post20760804

I am at a total loss. I just submitted a ticket to Sega, lol.

Seriously, does CA have official technical support we can contact? Do they have Support people on their pay role? This is the "official" site if I am not mistaken so this SHOULD be the place to go have CA help you with problems that we have with their game. I feel like a Screen door on a submarine at this point. I cant take the software back for a refund, only another copy, and there is no guarantee that will work. So I feel like I just lit money on fire, or flushed it down the toilet.

I mean hell, since we payed the money litterally only so we could play the software, since we don't own whats actually on the disc. And I cant even play it, So I effectively PAID FOR NOTHING.

Zarbono its best you make a separate thread so as to minimize confusion from the OP. List the original conditions, as well as any changes you've made in your attempt to get the game running.

Steam doing nothing despite the box stating it will launch is a common problem I've had and seen others experience; sometimes you literally have to fiddle with your computer settings in the most trivial manner possible and it would suddenly decide to resolve itself. Such is the nature of complicated technology.

Sometimes programs have a better chance working well if you start from the ground up. It doesn't sound like you've tried uninstalling Steam or deleting Empire's files. Try to do a complete wipe. It seems to be a problem of launching the game, rather than an issue of installation. Even audio driver issues can somehow cause a game to not launch.
How to install Steam games without downloading
How to post DXDiag: Windows+R key, type "dxdiag" in the input box. Select Save All Information, and attach as
in your post. Ork grenadier: Which partz ya throws again??
in your post.

I re-installed steam, and Empire total war. No change. Now I have to download my other games for no reason.

Tried doing this. It didn't work.

Deleted registry.blob and restart steam: no effect.

Changing every conceivable display option to man on and off: no effect.

Script folders are empty so I cannot change the resolution if is trying to boot up in an unsupported resolution.

Ran as Administrator, no effect, changed compatibility modes, same thing.

Disable my sounds drivers, it had no effect on trying to launch the game.

So I bought the game two days, Installed from he disc, when i tried to launch the game nothing happens. steam dialog pops up telling me the game is being launched, the computer thinks for a sec, and then nothing.

Does the game is being launched message go away or does it stay ? How long did you wait before you decided its not going anywhere ? Considering your pretty medium built the FIRST game start might take a few minutes even as long as 15-20min (since some parts of the 3d engine are assembled according to your system - once).

It goes away like it would launching any other game I had before I re-installed steam. After it's gone nothing happens, the cursor shows something is working in the background for maybe a second, two occasionally. I opened my task manager and arranged the processes in abc order. Empire.exe loads for 1-5 seconds, if at all, then just disappears.

I have waited numerous minutes, tried to start it multiple times, even on top of each other to try and GET an error message. I get absolutely nothing, no message, just the whrrrrrrrr of my graphics card fan.

I don't have my windows firewall active, I uninstall-ed my anti-virus (avast) that had no change. I tried to install not connected to the internet, it would not let me install.

I can't change anything in the script folder in appdata/roaming, becasue there are no files there. Nor are there any script files in my Empire Directory. All the .pack game data is there.

Mmmm, well I have read this whole mess, and while I have _never_ had that problem with any of the many setups we ran that program on, we had TWO major differences:
    1) We used only supported OSs. Win 7 is not supported- it is supported for NTW, but not ETW... and I am not surprised there is some funny business. With 7, it may work, it may not, or it may work with irritating buggyness.
    2) We used a number of monitor resolutions but did not use less common widescreen resolutions.

I cannot help with the Windows 7 OS, that is a self-inflicted wound beyond my powers to overcome. I do have to say that your reported native resolution _IS_ supported in ETW, although who knows whether it works or not as it is so unusual. I am not certain what it is that may be keeping your game screen from loading, but it SOUNDS like a driver or resolution issue. Just to take a stab at running it in windowed mode (which seems to me like a pretty good idea to try),

Lets do this... Make a copy of the game shortcut on your desk top. Now right click and go to the Target box where it says "Starts in... and gives you a file location... At the end of it, put " - window" or " -windowed". Use that shotcut to open the game... lets see what happens. That MAY do it... if it doesn't there are a coupl eof other "fun and game" things you can do here:
    http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1099302
Note that I would not do these two suggested workarounds (either the sign painter or the alt ctrl ) unless the windowed mode didn't work. To verify you did it properly, you may want to check with another program doing the same thing. To return it to full mode, change the "-window" entry to "-full". There is an OUTSIDE possibility that our initial "window" url addition may make it WORK in a non windowed fashion... Why? I have no idea, but it does happen from time to time with non-valve Steam games...

Now... if we DO get it up in windowed mode... Then we want to play with the resolutions of the monitor to see what will work or not in fullscreen mode... yeah? Let me know...

EDIT:Something else came to mind... what if one of the stupid "Bink" or whatever loading vids was screwing up? WOuld do the same thing. That's what we could try next if windowed mode doesn't help us out...

Tried, putting windowed commands in the launch options in steam and in a Desktop shortcut, both had no results. Nothing from running in compatibility mode for XP and Vista. Even tried forcing a 1024x768 resolution through the launch option in steam, but its mainly for Valve games, or games using the source engine.
Also updated my Bink video stuff. Nothing happened.

maybe a bad patch install script freaks out on win 7 32bit?

I am at loss why empire doest have 7 support, it only came out months before, then the DLC pack was released after win 7. I still am able to run M2TW on my system, flawlessly, no CTD's no script errors or anything, even after installing and unistalling various mods. I understand its a completely different game, just kind of mind boggling how something released in 2006 has better compatibility with win 7 than something released the same year, almost in the Quarter.

I just downloaded the Napoleon demo to see if that has problems initializing the engine.

The Napoleon: Total War demo i just downloaded from steam, Behaves in the EXACT same manner as Empire: total war. Nothing happens changing Compatibilities, Launch options, '-window', none of it does anything. No error messages from steam or the game Exe, no script launch failure warnings.

This is making me so upset. Now I just want my money back, and I'm not going to pay for anymore CA titles.

No reply on my Sega ticket, but then again they are just the publisher. personally I love how they are responsible for the tech support and not the people who design the software??

Did Win 7 come prepackaged or did you install it?

Win7 works well with ETW as it is. It is not labeled on the package as supported because ETW was released month before, means the programming was done 1-2 years before win7....and afaik even the Win7 release wasnt announced at the time ETW came out. I dont think it just doesnt work with Win7 - especially since Win7 is practically identical to Vista in most parts.

I noticed you have rather old drivers. Catalyst 10.5 for graphics and 2009ers for sound....although a bit off but try installing a more recent catalyst and see if the game now starts at all.

Then try lowering your windows desktop resolution to 1024x768 and then try launching ETW.

If still no go - then go to "run" -> Type "msconfig" -> select the systemstart tab and select deactivate all.
Reboot and close the upcoming message that the startup has been changes without changing it back.
    Try running ETW.

If it fails you can set all pieces back to startup with msconfig again.

Lastly. Do you have all required .NET software packages installed (for AMD catalyst for example .NET 3.0 or 3.5 is needed) ?
If not open internet explorer and go to http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=de and run "custom" update. Install anything related to .NET, DirectX or Visual C++ or microsoft C++ which comes up.

Reboot system afterwards and reinstall the graphics drivers now. Reboot again and retry ETW.

    Is that your system ?
    http://computers.toptenreviews.com/economy/benq/benq-gn703aaaba-details-19095.htm

IF it is, did you add a HD 5500 series graphics card yourself ?
Did you deactivate the onboard graphics card in BIOS and uninstall its drivers ?

    Updated windows, restarted, entered Bios.

Display adapter was set to PCI, I switched it to PCI 16x.

    No change.

with task manager, the game engine runs for maybe 1-2 seconds, sometimes a fraction of a second. If I leave my game Library open when "launch" the game. My status in the lower right hand shows that I am "in game", but only for a second then it goes back to the "online" status

Updated my Nforce drivers, problem still persists.

CCleaner revealed no errors in the E:TW registry; A lot of my other steam games had issues though (becasue they have been uninstall-ed).

Setting my monitor in to 1024x768 has no effect.

I'm getting close to the end of my rope :( ...
