I just wanted to note that the 326.80 nvidia beta drivers were no help to the campaign fps lag for me. Real time battles seem better, or at least the same before I updated. Im running a 525m with medium to low settings; lowerst possible settings are no help
I did a clean install of the new drivers and the benchmark got a great 10fps boost and real time battle 5.
Campaing still sucks. Also still no difference when switching from (very)high settings to low. fps stays the same. (maybe 1fps difference).
Funny thing, after doing clean install i went back to shogun 2 fos and the increase of fps in real time battle was staggering. got a stable 40fps with everything set to high.
No difference when switching crossfire of or changing priority or playing with preference file.
This game is simply not optimized?!!!!
Als after fresh install, all of a sudden i got variation between units. before they all looked the same. but now they have different faces and color of shield. how weird is that.
So benchmark is running well. the rest just sucks...
Im out of options...
(new amd drivers do help a little, especially after clean install, main problems still exist though)
yea also have around 50% GPU usage in game at most.
You'll notice that this happens in all TW games, and indeed in most games that use a good amount of CPU around the board. This doesn't mean the game isn't optimized it means there is a bottleneck somewhere, whether it be in the game, Drivers, software, pol, ect.
Two people with 670's both get the Same GPU usage yet one gets much better performance in the game than the other. This is inherently a system or a driver issue usually. And this is what im seeing in my own tests. But we'll see.
I`ve noticed you can activate tesselation in preferences file. Looks like it gives nice visuals to strategic map and in battle. But that`s still no point since battle map lags as hell.
Most people have seen that turning it off gives them a significant performance boost.
I have a laptop, Intel HD4000 built in graphics and a Radeon 7670m graphics card, is there any way yet to get the game to use my graphics card? (I tried changing it to high performance in graphics output management menu thing, but it still uses IntelHD) I don't want to try the BIOS method in case it messes up, I would need a guide to doing this.
Also, it all runs fine on the Intel HD, that is until I get a battle where the weather is raining, I then get a huge FPS drop, I'd guess from 20-30 to about 1 or 2.

I dunno, Im worndering how capable that card is. The campaign lag was helped a bit with the new patch and a combination of new drivers from Nvidia should help. Just so you know, the 326.80 Drivers Don't have support for Rome 2 at all, they merely helped quite a few people solve or weighleigh the issue long enough for new Drivers to come out. Which hopefully will be soon,.

What AV Programs do you have? its possible that something is getting in the way of the games install. And if it is, we could be on the way to solving one of the big issues with the game for people. Can you give me a list of the Anti-Virus/spyware/malware programs you have installed? And What firewalls you have enabled? do you use windows defender? do you have UAC off in windows?

I've partially cured my lag problems - I think the new patch may have helped, plus I downloaded and installed the latest beta drivers for my 6870 Radeon card. I ticked the "unlimited memory" box, and tweaked some of the "high" settings (medium rather than high for sky, for example, although that gives you somewhat Martian aspect to your battles). The benchmark fps, which had been below 20, lurched up to just over 30. One thing that lingers, however, is "spinning camera" syndrome, where every now and then the camera does not stop rotating even though I've taken my finger off the offending E or Q key. Anyone else get this?

I have to go to work now and try a full clean install with everything turned off when i get back. Let me know if this is worth the effort.

Hardwaremaster got something to report, I installed the official release of the patch and my peformance is smoother now, checked out GPU usage and it now usually reaches about %77, it was about %55 before. And what's better is, I started playing as Rome and fought some battles against the Etruscans in Italia, and GPU usage was always at %99 during those battles, all settings extreme apart from v-sync and vegetation alpha.Didn't go below 30 FPS and hovered between 40-50 FPS most of the time couldn't believe how smooth it was (wasn't huge battles but still...) .I think this shows us the game is causing this bottleneck and they are slowly fixing it.
For some reason in some battle maps GPU usage is at full and in others it's low.I don't know man, this looks like a problem with the game to me.I mean Raphia is a huge battle and even in that battle I get %99 usage(bad performance with extreme settings of course, but great performance when I lower some stuff down to ultra or very high), but in Carthago for example it's low (now higher with the patch). But this kinda gives me hope that they will eventually take care of this.I am very very sure that I didn't get %99 usage in my battles in Italia before, when I first started the game, this is surely after the official release of the patch.

Inherently this sounds like a mixed issue to me, as Ive said from the beginning, its obvious bad drivers have a huge involvement as changing drivers has offered a very large improvement for many, and its also obvious that there are some other issues, which I have also stated many times over. Drivers will go a long way to fixing many of the problems but not all. Its good to hear that you've had increased performance, and I will report your post to CA so they can try and pinpoint what the issue is if there is one. Thank you for the information! Much appreciated!

They say that with every game, and they are always at least partially wrong. They said the same thing on S2's release when it took them 3 weeks to fix the issues with S2 and SLI, it took them 3 MONTHS to release a proper driver for S2 that removed many of the jittering and hardware faults/CTD's. No offense man, but the evidence points towards a joint problem here. AMD blamed the 7000 series crashes on CA, but what do you know, AMD fixed the issue but it took them 8 months. Best ye look around young one. Many peoples issues have been alleviated by new drivers.

The variation of people having improvement is wide, some say it fixes most of the problems and now they are playing well, others see almost no improvement. Its very system independent. CA is taking all the information they can and trying to tackle each problem. Only thing we can do other than these fixes is wait for Nvidia to release proper drivers, and CA to release some more patches. Also try this:

Tried it with everything disabled. Also running the game with everything disabled. Still zero luck.
There are some minor improvements after new drivers and maybe patch but the big problems remain.
Alright, not one of the lucky ones then. I'll keep researching in all of the threads for more information. Nvidia still hasn't released any proper drivers for Rome2 as of yet, we'll see what happens when they do.

I'm the same as Couq, GTX 770 at least anyway, got a i5 2500K OC to 4.3ghz, battles were fine pre patch but now are getting laggy when zoomed in. Was expecting the GTX 770 to blow Rome II away. Happy to wait for performance fixes from CA just hope its soon so I can unleash the 770 at it properly, that and drivers from Nvidia would be great too!

I have a Alienware MX18RX2 And run it on NVIDIA GTX660M, running on the latest NVIDIA beta 326.80 and have tried absolutely everything to try and get the good balance but no post or forum is helping me, the patch has done nothing to help me. will I just have to wait for CA to bring the correct patch out or is there anything else I can do??
I have just tried the CPU Affinity change and it has worked for me.
CPU 2.6 core duo. Card Radeon 6850 (if I recall correctly) with 1 gb VRAM, 4 Gb memory.
I watched the performance meter before and after I did the "turn it off and turn it on again" trick, and it went from using around 53% of the CPU to 100%. No more spinny camera syndrome, no more lag on the campaign map.

i got an improvement for my gtx 560 so far, with some of your posts, especially the skyrim one and disabling dx11 to force downgrade on 10.
But do you have insight what CA do on their end? cause even the Nvidia and AMD say that the majority needs to be done on CA's part in kind of optimization.
Go to your task manager, ctrl+alt+delete or simply by typing in "taskmgr" in the windows search field in start.
Then find rome2.exe under processes and rightclick, should be an option called Set Affinity (3rd from bottom) and below Set Priority.
Then you unclick the processor that is at 100 % - and you'll see that rome2.exe won't be using that particular core anymore. After this you go back to Set affinity and check the core again. Now no core should be using 100 %
However, I ain't sure this is the best thing to do, as some processes are better off being all on the same core, cache loading and other stuff functions better being on 1 core. Some calculations need eachother, which means they won't have to go through the diferent cache's of the CPU to reach eachother.
Numbers goes from 0 --> # as following your view of core use under the tab Performance.

Most people have seen that turning it off gives them a significant performance boost.
For some it does, for some it doesn't. It doesn't appear to be a linear method. Which is what makes this so difficult to solve.

Can you give me a list of the Anti-Virus/spyware/malware programs you have installed? And What firewalls you have enabled? do you use windows defender? do you have UAC off in windows?

0 · Disagree AgreeI have Nod eseT, adaware browser protection, windows firewall enabled. I dunno about windows defender. UAC is off yes.
I have to go to work now and try a full clean install with everything turned off when i get back. Let me know if this is worth the effort.
Thanks!

0 · Disagree AgreeHardwaremaster got something to report, I installed the official release of the patch and my peformance is smoother now, checked out GPU usage and it now usually reaches about %77, it was about %55 before.

0 · Disagree AgreeInherently this sounds like a mixed issue to me, as Ive said from the beginning, its obvious bad drivers have a huge involvement as changing drivers has offered a very large improvement for many, and its also obvious that there are some other issues, which I have also stated many times over. Drivers will go a long way to fixing many of the problems but not all. Its good to hear that you've had increased performance, and I will report your post to CA so they can try and pinpoint what the issue is if there is one. Thank you for the information! Much appreciated!
It has shown to fix many issues for people, I would give it a try.
Strange, first time I've heard of the spinning thing. Haven't experienced it myself. did you report it anywhere else? Thanks for the information btw!

There are some minor improvements after new drivers and maybe patch but the big problems remain.

I watched the performance meter before and after I did the "turn it off and turn it on again" trick, and it went from using around 53% of the CPU to 100%. No more spinny camera syndrome, no more lag on the campaign map.

0 · Disagree AgreeGo to your task manager, ctrl+alt+delete or simply by typing in "taskmgr" in the windows search field in start.
