Guys this thread is commendable and a testament to the dedicated TW community / fans but don't try to do the job of CA or nVidia or whoever, those guys get paid by all of us who buy their products - this is fundamental. The bottom line is Rome 2 was released unpolished to say the least, but we are used to these things happening because we are PC gamers. We need to sit tight and wait for a patch and drivers. I see some people fiddling with their BIOS and flashing etc etc...rule of thumb is if your PC is stable with other games then don't mess with it...

I'm getting tired of this. I paid for nothing, that's all. If they don't resolve the problem this week, I will write them to get my money back and delete Rome 2 from my game list from Steam or do whatever they want.

Yeah, the game is not well optimized, I am sure about that. Released too early.

Hey, just wanted to share my results with the new Geforce Experiance profile for rome 2.
I didnt used it before because i optimize the settings usually myself. So i installed latest version and optimised rome 2.
Result: setting everything on the lowest possible setting and, in addition, lowering the resolution (from 1920x1080 to 1600x900)
There are two bad things about that: First, the game of course looks absolutely ridiculous. Second, wich is actually even worse, is that the framerate is kinda high now in the forest benchmark (average 57) but extremely unstable. Even though v-sync is activated the fps fluctuates between ~55 and ~65 realy fast. The every single peak of the graph in the end is eihter ~55 or ~65.

I somewhat agree with your premise, which is partly why I think this ridiculous notion that beta drivers are the answer to most of the problems is a foolish one. Hardware manufacturers don't encourage people to download beta drivers for very good reasons. Besides which, it remains ridiculous to blame the failure of the game to function on the hardware and software it always needed to utilise. It's no more reasonable a claim that releasing a mobile game that doesn't work and claiming Apple need to re-engineer iOS so that it will.

    Brief recap of system

Graphic card: MSI GTX 770 Twin Frozr
    Processor: Intel I5-3550
    8 GB DDR3 1333 MHz

I had random lag spikes with Nvidia driver 320.49, after installing latest beta driver 326.80, those lag spikes are now gone. However frame rate is still in the low 20-30 when in battles. (Throughout the prologue)

    Rome2Setting.jpg

Campaign map is constant 60 FPS (vsync) (prologue, a newly started Sparta gives 35-40 FPS)

Whenever in battle or campaign map, when alt-tabbing out everything is stuttering on desktop.

Funny thing is, game seem fluent regardless of the low FPS.
    System:
    CPU: Intel I7-4770
Graphic: MSI GeForce GTX 770 GAMING
    SSD SATA3
    Memory: 8 GB DDR3 1600 MHz
    PSU: Corsair TX650W
Op. system: Windows 7 Home Prem.

Actually Rome 2 is a great game behind the initial technical problems, there are loads of players that are playing and enjoying the game. They are not the most vocal group right now mind you as they aren't having so many problems as the unfortunate people here in the support forums are.

Btw, that last statement is actually untrue if its a brand new game, often a fix such as this is required for some. Proof is in the pudding as they say, Bioshock infinite is a great example of this. Google that support and you'll see the effectiveness of it. COH2 is also a good example as some people had horrible performance in that game on release as well.

A week is a sufficient amount of time, and an understandable position. However, not ever playing Rome 2 is unwise based on the fun I've had with it so far. Even if for now it does lag a tiny bit. Im definitely one of the lucky ones. And soon so will the people downloading the official drivers I hope.

Yeah, the version installed is even newer than the one installed with latest beta drivers 326.80 (i got 1.6.1, beta drivers will install 1.6)
Furthermore I updated Experience manually (through the updates tab in the preferences) and it says everything is up to date :/

Ok. What I have done. I set all to extreme (not alpha trees) except unit detail which I set to lowest setting. FPS has become really decent now. And also I do not see a difference in unit detail indeed. I mean when zoomed in all units look as it all set to extreme. Well what is actually this settings? May be it`s LOD scale option?

There is a lot of differences, but its not the same for everyone. This is what is so frustrating for everyone. Some have it fixed with current available fixes. Others try everything.

Its not just me, CA is working hard behind the scenes to solve these issues. But untill they have something definite they can't really talk about it. As well as needing to wait for the Supporting drivers from the big Two. Nvidia/AMD. An official statement is around the corner.

Currently if you look at the notes in the drivers you download as of right now from either Nvidia or AMD's main sites you will realize that Neither of them actually support Rome 2 officially. The two companies appear to be slow in releasing the BETA drivers for Rome 2, and this is likely causing the majority of your issues regarding lag on most settings (assuming your hardware is up to par). For now the best thing you can do is too keep an eye on your respective Card companies for the latest BETA Drivers. One of which soon will support Rome

Really fair to blame Nvidia and AMD for you disaster. I have played tons of games at dayone with no problem at all even if there wasn't a specific driver.
[EDIT] Nvidia Has Now released a new Geforce Experience Profile! Which appears to have helped people a LOT. So download it and try it, see if it works for you! :)

Are you serious? The Nvidia profile just puts nearly everything on low in the graphic option. Great fix...

We’re aware of the issue and are addressing it. A temporary measure will be put in the first update (details of which will be given today), this will improve performance slightly. A full fix will then be added in the following update after that.

Yes guys. "Unit detail" has nothing to do with unit detail indeed. It`s definetely LOD scale option. The Ultra+ setting just forces your CPU to draw every unit which is miles away like the unit you are zoomed to. I personally don`t care if 5 pixels on my display is sprite or real 3d model. Just keep the setting in lower range and enjoy 50+ fps gameplay experience with extreme graphics.

Every settings is extreme except unit detail (lowest possible):

Concerning the overall performance of the game here it is kinda solid. Its not like i get 5-10 fps as others with my prefered settings (some compromise between effects i need more and need less). Overall its still pretty bad. Waiting for some patching and driver updates :]

Btw, High appears to be quite the sweet spot for unit detail. but this doesn't fix much at this point in time. As most people can't get the settings to have an effect.

Tried everything, and some soultions (like manuall DirectX installation from game folder) or downloading beta drivers and reintegrating cache seem to help like 10-15 fps and make it "playable" on medium settings (of course I can make it lower, but then it looks like Rome I, and it's not the point).

But still, it's nowhere near to making this game really enjoyable. Looks faaar worse than Shogun II (which plays on my PC on max details perfectly smooth) and runs not even close fluently to it. Still lags, feels very heavy and unresponsive, not really a game you would expect at all.

    I've got:
    Phenom X4 955 3.20 GHz
    Sapphire Radeon HD 7850 1GB
    4GB RAM

I know it's not any high end super rig, but what I was counting for is at least Shogun II-like graphic expeirence and smoothines. Is there any chance that future fixes will make the game playable on my rig smoothly with very high/ultra graphic settings?

Cause right now I guess I'm coming back to Shogun II and waiting for something that will make this game really enjoyable.

re-installed direct x from the game folder and downloaded driver 326.80
FPS have increased a little 5-8 and the lagging has been greatly reduced. A lot better zoomed in whilst units in combat. A step in the right direction. Looking forward to the patches and new drivers. Thank you for your help.

    Hi

I have an ASUS AMD A6-3400M APU HD 6720G2 Runs shogun2 on high / Rome 2 lags.

    Display Memory: 4056 MB
    Dedicated Memory: 1507 MB
    Shared Memory: 2548 MB

Tried everything, except for the BIOS setup as it is impossible to do.

FPS low settings with 1024*600 is exactly the same as with native resolution and everything on (very)high. (10-20)
Been trying everything spending over a day making the game playable.

Only option is waiting on the 'great' support of amd?
