    Tech forum?

But either way, what's your graphics card? And 600W is the bare minimum to run a latest generation graphic card safely, especially if you have owned it for a couple of years (A PSU loses between 5% and 20% per year depending on the quality and usage).

The confusion with the graphic card is that there is a misdirected link on the last item. That is a Video card designation but the link takes you to a DVD drive ;) IN fact, all of the last three links go to the bluray drive man... LOL

Well I have done a lot worse, but it would be nice if we had the proper links, since there may be different versions of these items.

DS is right about the 600 being on the bubble if its been around for a while. It may be fine, seeing as you have already been using it with that card, but do keep in mind the aging issue as time goes on.

Hard to do better than that CPU in terms of speed and capabilities, but the card may be going to leave you a bit behind the curve for some settings, particularly if you are running on larger resolutions. Can you let us know what res, your monitor is?

Smart to get the NZXT fans for that case, as no other will likely fit. SOMEONE has been reading! ;) My only commnt might be that I might save the money on the case and fans. and even sacrifice half of the ram to get a second card, or a better card if you can sell your current. Its only a suggestion as that card will run the game creditably, but not at all max very well. Having said that, I like that case, and will be using it myself in a build, and evotuc already did, if you saw any of his pics.

The only problem i have now is that i need to find some good ram on that site. now that i have to upgrade my card i will also need to get a power supply

I think this one would be OK

Antec High Current Gamer 900W Power Supply HCG-900

Could someone please tem what a good card is nowadays

    Case, PSU
That case is another interesting looking one, but its not available here to my knowledge...You don't HAVE to upgrade your card, its only a suggestion. If you do, though, you are probably right yo umay want ot upgrade your PSU, and you definitely would have to with a second card as well. One comment on that PSU, its WAAY overkill for a single card. It probably is adequate for two VEry significant cards... SO if you wanted to tone it down a bit, you could. I usually recommend Corsair and Antec for PSUs, so no argument on the brand.

    Card
Cards in the upper tier for AMD are 6950 ad 6970 both of which have 2gig models. They currently represent the top AMD cards on the market. There are 1gig memory models of both cards as well, which may operate with almost the same level of ability until you turn up the AA way high with many many 3d items floating around the screen on higher resolution screens.
Top card for NVidia is the 580 (a whopping $500USD plus card) and the more reasonable 570 which is usally in the same price range of the 6970 and or 6950 2g.

Once again , what res will you be running?

    Ram
On the ram, I would get 8 gigs unless you need to watch the budget. Its cheap realtively speaking and getting it all matched now makes it fairly futureproof. While rare, I have seen one or two cases where projects have shown a title, plus OS, plus background and associated processes have used over 4 gigs. How bad is that... Not really if its very temporary, if its not, pretty bad. If you plan on increaseing the demands with mods and other types of operations...I would go for more. If you aren't going to overclock, the Intel Spec frequency for Ram is 1333 max, so buying faster than that is pointless. Within that frequency, you are looking for the faster timings if performance is important and you are trying to maximize actual speed. Typically in that class (DDR3) you are looking for CAS/Timings of 7, so they would look like 7-7-7-21 or some such.

For Nvidia at this resolution you can work with GTX560 (250$ USD) or GTX570 (350$ USD), but a GTX580 (500$ USD) would be an overkill.

For AMD, a 6950-2GB (300$ USD) would be very good and a 6970-2GB (350$ USD) would be ultimate.

If you can afford it, go with the 6970 or the 570 to be future proof for a couple of years. If not a 6950 or a 560 should be more than enough for a year or a year and a half.

But for any of the 4 cards it would be a wise investment to get a 650W to 750W power supply to be safe for a couple of years. Try to find one from Corsair (80$ to 120$ USD).

PS: All prices are based on Newegg and Tigerdirect in the US, and currency is USD.

how would i go about selling a PC, other than eBay and what price should i be asking. I was think around the $AUD250.00 - $AUD500.00 mark

My current system for sale would look like this

    Processor E6750 2.66mhz Dual Core
    Ram: 4gigs
    Graphics: ATI 5850 1gig memory or a Asus 8600Gtx 512MB
    Motherboard: not sure
    Power Supply: OCZ 600W
No hard Drive - Due to the fact i am not confident that data will be erased or how to

You will get quick offers for the graphics card and power supply because they are mainstream items. The rest might prove to be harder to sell unless you are planning on selling all of the rig as a single item.

And if this is for Shogun 2, do what I'll do: Play for a couple of months on your current rig and upgrade then when hardware prices comes down just at the beginning of summer. You'll have to sacrifice some graphical options, but you will be able to play Shogun 2.

Not a bad plan. As to how you would sell it, that is going to vary by market and even locality. Here in the US, its Ebay, Amazon, Craig's list and the loca forums that let you hoc your stuff in the same genre...

    Thank guys

I am wanting to sell my PC as a complete unit

I had planned on getting my new PC at the end of the month, but if you suggest i wait then maybe i can wait a little longer. I am not a good saver so while i have the money now i thought i would get an up market PC.....lol

l also would like to know if its worth getting a dedicated sound card also as i have searched the web and there are comments that dedicated sound cards reduces CPU stress and for gaming its a must so long as you have good speakers, mine are average speakers which are Logitech 5.1, any thoughts on this?

    cheers

I'll leave the technical answer to the mods, but personally I would recommend against going with dedicated audio cards unless you are planning on doing some audio editing professionally. For gaming purposes, the integrated Audio Card in the Mobo is more than enough for most cases, and most reports say that dedicated audio cards gives between 1 and 3 extra frames per second which imho is unnoticeable as long as you don't measure you fps with a tool like fraps.

Audiophiles and FPS addicts who hunt you by the sound of your heartbeat are the main consumers of soundcards. Chips use software to emulate the hardware of full cards, and DO use some compute cycles - the useage is infinitessimally small for a modern CPU, and on a multiple core CPU using a modern OS (Vista/Win7), of no consequence. If you have a very fine ear, are very picky about your sound, and do not care about the cost, I would try one. I no longer use them.
