Thanks for the tip. I'll download it as soon as I've finished my UP campaign in ETW.

Already downloaded this new version via torrent, and I'll install it first thing after class.

Does this work with Retro, or wipe it out? Better question, with this do I need or want Retro?

Stainless Steel is light years away from Retro. It adds all sorts of new stuff - from a major retexturing of most units to new features such as a form of supplies (which affect morale and movement points) and much more.

Yup, much better than retro (unless you want a better vanilla experience).

I like SS6.3 much better than 6.1. I didn't really like it, but so far (as England to learn the ropes) in the Early Era I've lost York to Scotland and France is besieging Caen almost every turn. France and Scotland are allies as well which add's to the mix. Right now Nottingham is producing as many troops as possible but things are somewhat bleak. I don't have access to many good units yet (basic levies really) so taking back York will be a challenge as the Scots have a full stack garrisoned there and ready to defend with their better quality troops. (Highlanders - 4 attack and 8 defense) vs my Spear Militia (2 attack and 10 defense). If I recall right, Nottingham is two turns from building a barracks that will give me two decent quality troops.

My only real gripe is the recruitment system (known as Real Recruitment/RR in SS). I know it's going for historical accuracy but it's rather annoying not knowing when I will reach the "high" period in-game and gain access to some decent Feudal units rather than my levies which are beyond useless. You can disable RR in the menu upon startup but apparently it's bugged and doesn't work. It's no game breaker though as the game really makes sure you have a majority of poor levies with some quality troops to turn the tide of battle.

The disable RR option is bugged?

Yea, I was reading the twcenter forums to see what date the game changes to the "high" period and I came across one of the modder's saying that the disable RR option is bugged and doesn't really work.

Anyway, As you can see, I don't really have any forces in the field to hold the French from besieging Caen every turn since they are all up north trying to retake York.

I actually just sallied out of Caen and killed the French King winning the battle barely. Robert de Mowbury fought valiantly but died saving Caen.

I have a new gripe right now, and that is the fact that battles crash extremely frequently. Not a fan at all.

I'm hoping they'll release a fix for the bugged "disable RR option" soon.

I'm actually rather starting to like it. It's turn 60 now and I just got Feudal Knights and Miles Peidities (Spelling?). Finally some decent quality Feudal troops. It makes the early stages (and even for the foreseeable future) much more challenging in the sense that you have to work with what you got which isn't much. I never thought I'd say how much I loved Hobilars and Levy Archers.

This seems to be a problem with any mod that adds a lot of modifications to the campaign script. All the supply mechanics and the AI all add quite a lot to the script, which makes it more liable to crashing. Another mod, Call of Warhammer, has massive crashing issues in its current version because there is so much customization to the script.

I loved it until it started to crash whenever i entered a battle. It used to work fine..then i invaded Ireland on like turn 20 and all hell broke loose.

The Irish found a secret weapon. The Irish came crashing down on you.

After spending sometime with the campaign map, I agree with you. You get to learn the value of units most of us think are mere cannon fodder.

The best mod in medieval 2. Despite shogun 2 and empire, I'm still playing in it. For Ukraine,of course)))
