Ca modding division

I am not good at modding, don't have the attention span or the free time to mod so the mods I would like aren't made or balanced to my taste. I wish CA would have a modding division that we could ask them to make a mod and depending on the size they could charge us for it.

Faction specific unit overhaul $5
traits and abilities overhauls $10.
complete game overhauls $20. (mind you these are tailor made individual overhauls for one persons taste Radious's mod might be free but I might not like all of the changes.) Then upload it to the workshop just for me to download. Others can see the mod but would have to pay ca to download it. Boom, another way for ca to make a buck and me to get my perfect game

I don't think CA have the human ressources to do that honestly.

$20 for a complete game overhaul for one person?!?!

A big mod like that would cost thousands for CA to make. You're basically talking about on demand DLC, that's insane! :)

They already tried the whole monetization of mods-thing and the reception was less than enthusiastic.

How much did it cost darthmod and radious to make their overhaul mods? Do you think Divide et Impera cost thousands to make? Of course not. I doubt anything that substantial. For an expert coder like at CA im sure that's all in a day's work. It would just be something they assign 2 coders to work on and probably not even full time.

If you paid the Divide et Impera team a wage based on hours worked then yes, it would cost thousands, even millions.

If you commercialise mods, the one thing that will become absolutely necessary is the appropriate QA and that's easily one of the most time and work intensive processes there is and it becomes bigger the more intrusive the change wrought by the mod is. Even a mod as small as fiddling with the morale values of units requires extensive testing just for the sake of balancing.
CA would have to hire a lot of new workers just to get this done and that would easily make their products way more expensive. If you have, say, a playerbase of just 10000 people and only ten percent of them want CA to make custom mods for them, how much labor and cost do you think that would involve?

Don't blow the number up so much. I'm not diminishing the skill of DeI team, but there is a huge gap in term of consistency between a paid work and content you make in free time.

Making something that can be sold is never cheap anyway.

All that CA would be responsible for as far a QA is concerned would be giving you specifically what you asked for and nothing else. If you want only the visigoths to have all 99 maxed units, and they create that mod, its on you if the balance sucks.
Once the mod is created, the mod can be found and bought by the entire community though. So if you make the mod for one person but the mod is seen and downloaded by 500 more people, then they easily get their money back and then sum. You have to spend money to make money. And I only suggested this because it seems CA is making the games with more and more dependence on modders going in and fixing things they don't like anyway.

No, not if they demand money for it. They'd be sued into oblivion if they set it up like that.

It's easier to learn modding than to expect CA to invest in a completely hopeless business idea.
