Bipolar Piedmont-Sardinia

So in my Italian campaign on normal difficulty, I have made P-S my protectorate and my entire western border is peaceful . P-S has been my protectorate for a few turns now and relations are ok and in green. But now when I end my turn, P-S suddenly flips out, declares war, and invades. Is this supposed to happen within the campaign as an event or is the game just acting all screwy? Any idea s on how I can prevent this?

    Well, From my experience no.

When I captured the regions of Parma and Mantua, The Sardinians declared war on me once again.

So! What do you do in this situation?

I mainly held a garrison at Turin and slowly built up my forces and destroyed them in the area on the top left. Didn't bother me again after that.

If you want them gone, Eradicate them at the source.
