CTD when loading 'late game' save files

Consistent CTD when trying to load save files. I have auto save on. Saves during the 'early game' can be loaded but games during 'late games' (usually turn 100 and onwards will lead to CTD). Game starts to get fun and boom suddenly you can't load your saves.
