Medieval 2 Windows 10 Crash

Just built a new computer with Windows 10 and I installed Medieval 2 Definitive Edition from Steam. Whenever I change the resolution or anti-aliasing settings and hit apply, I get a CTD saying "A fatal graphics error has occurred." This crash also happens when I alt-tab and try to open the game.

I have tried running med2 in windows XP sp3 and windows 8 compatibility modes, as well as disabling full screen optimizations and running as an admin. I have also tried reinstalling 3 times, twice on my HDD for mass storage and once on my SSD boot drive.

Currently running Windows 10 Pro version 1903. My pc specs include a Ryzen 7 3700x, 32gb DDR4 Ram and a GTX 970 4gb.

Does anybody have any ideas as to how I can fix this?
