I took the liberty of looking at the Total War channel and discovered that Troy will be free at launch if you claim it in 24 hours.
CA aren't exactly gonna put out a entire game for free for it is likely that Epic Games is paying them a significant amount of money to develop the game for them or even is straight up covering the development costs. This isn't something new to the industry as it happened with Bayonetta 2, which only exists because Nintendo paid Platinum Games for the development.
This means that the only reason Troy exists in the first place could be funding form Epic Games. Saga games are essentially independent projects aswell so this means that it only applies to the one title. Don't forget that Thrones of Britannia sold poorly overall so if Epic Games offered CA a guaranteed return on their investment on top of letting them sell it on other platforms a year later, its a dam good deal and gives us all a game that would not exist otherwise.
Warhammer however is not a standalone titles like the Saga series, it already has 2 games and a ton of DLC available on steam and CA aren't stupid. Remember this is form a company that hid whispers in a trailer 3 months before a DLC, that none of us picked up on, they aren't stupid, they are more clever than people are giving them credit for. They will make Warhammer 3 available on Steam. The one realistic possiblity is that they might make it available on both

3 · 3LikeBut you are right that warhammer is never going exclusive. The saga games were always just a side project designed to keep unused manpower busy and train newer teams. They were never meant to be big sellers. So the fact that epic comes along and offers to pay for production costs, means that it can actually be quite profitable for CA. There's o reason for CA not to do it.
Warhammer on the other hand is one of the best selling PC games in the world. Limiting it by making it an exclusive could potentially cost them a lot of money. There would be no reason to risk warhammers popularity by doing that.

1 · 1LikeBecause Troy is standalone and Warhammer is part of a trilogy already on steam. They are entirely different situations. CA is a developer that gives consistent free legendary lords, free content, free reworks, all for 3-4 year old factions that any other developer would abandon. To say that they are sellouts when they have already proven that support their fans when any other developer would have abandoned that old content is quite frankly, silly. You need to...

1 · 1LikeWho wants to play Warhammer on a platform that doesn't have a mod workshop? Steam is seamless in that transition whereas Epic isn't. Steam is where the loyal fanbase is. They'd just **** off a lot of people. Sure, they might get a lump sum up front for such a deal, but long term? CA loses.

"This means that the only reason Troy exists in the first place could be funding form Epic Games."
-This is factually incorrect. Troy was announced and put on Steam for a 2020 release date. If Troy was purely being funded by Epic then they wouldn't of bothered putting a release date on the Steam page. We are also 2 months away from the game launching and we all know games aren't made that fast so there is no way Epic funded the development of Troy in any shape.
-Also, CA isn't giving the game away for free, Epic is. For every free download that happens on launch day, Epic "purchases" it so CA still gets it's money as if the game was bought rather than DL'd for free. That is Epic eating the sales to get an exclusive deal as they've done for others when it come to deep discounts on newly launched games.
"Remember this is form a company that hid whispers in a trailer 3 months before a DLC, that none of us picked up on, they aren't stupid, they are more clever than people are giving them credit for."
-I'd like to believe the same but over the past 5 years I have seen well-established game companies continue to burn good will just to make a quick buck. Can't assume that Sega/CA won't do the same. While it sounds silly and seems stupid for them to do with such an investment into the Steam platform, it isn't completely ruled out since they aren't going pure exclusive, it's only for a year. This is why you see kickstarter games or already sold games (Metro: Exodus) take the deal close to launch, burning the bridge to the poor supporters/buyers a couple months in advanced. They will still get their game in the end but just have to wait longer so backlash isn't too extreme. CA could also have a unique incentive of going Epic exclusive for Wh3 by giving themselves an extra year to work on the Grand Campaign since that part of the game wouldn't be needed for a EGS-exclusive version. From Sega's standpoint, it could also guarantee a second surge in sales since unlike Metro or kickstarter games, a lot of us players have a large investment into the series on the Steam platform so delaying that launch a year would mean essentially a second launch date for a spike in revenue.
They do have incentives to go EGS exclusive besides the initial payment from Epic so we should still be concerened. While it may seem less likely due to the situation the Warhammer trilogy is in, it's not completely ruled out since there would be benefits for both Sega and the developers (having extra ME2 dev time). We should remain cautious on CA's decisions going forward and IMO shouldn't relax on the potential of Wh3 going that route.

0 · LikeWarhammer III is a 600k sales game on release.
Seriously people, ToB sold like 65k copies or something in it's first month. Even after years of sales, it's only a couple hundred thousand. Warhammer sells more than that on day 1.
Sells. Not gives away for free. Epic can't do the same thing they've done with Troy, it's unaffordable. This 24 hours for free stunt is going to cost millions of dollars, tens of millions depending on the deal structure. Doing it for Warhammer III could end up being a two hundred million dollar cash loss.
If they just sell it, then worst case scenario, they link to our Steam accounts, pull the DLC purchases, and GIVE them all to us on EGS. If they don't, the fallout will be an apocalyptic, company altering **** up. It's just not going to happen.

0 · LikeI can't think of a worse case scenario more horrific than Total War: Warhammer 3 going to Epic Games. 2nd worse case it going to Epic games for 6 months to a year and then being released on Steam. If that happened.... God.
Now I doubt this will happen for all of the reasons everyone has mentioned above, but I have said that before. And they keep doing it. Makes me pretty worried.
