hello im trying to play multiplayer and its saying i have a different version of the game with other people and i dont have my mods on i have reinstalled the game and it still has the game version marked with a * can someone help me cuz i really like this game and id like to be able to play online

According to that log you have some files missing (open it and have a look). Do you own all the DLCs?

Try verifying the game cache - that might bring back some or all of the missing files.

i actually don't own all the dlcs but im gonna try and verify the game cache and tell you what happens

validating the game files did not fix it. it just said all files are verified the problem is still there if you know of a way to fix it i would be thankful

Which OS are you using?
The only possible solution I can think of is a complete reinstall, running Steam as administrator.

That's what I meant. The Mac version is not as up-to-date as the Windows version so may be missing some files.

Something else I should have mentioned is making sure your antivirus has exceptions for Steam and the game.

If you do that first, then restart Steam using Run as Administrator, then clear your Steam download cache, and then verify the game cache again, you may find that the files will download without having to reinstall.

i did all the steps you told me to do and still the bloody thing has this problem

I was afraid that might happen, but hoping it wouldn't.

The only other thing I can think of is a complete clean re-install. By that I mean manually deleting all Rome 2 folders including the ones in Appdata (having made back-ups of all saves and replays), then reinstalling from scratch.

is there some kind of guide on how to completely delete all files from rome so there is no trace of it on my pc

I don't think so. Basically you're looking at going to ~steamapps\common\Total War Rome II and deleting the whole folder, the going to Appdata\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Rome 2 and deleting all the folders there apart from replays, save_games, and save_games_multiplayer (so that you don't lose saves and replays).
