Medieval II doesn't work on a new computer

Hi guys,

So I've recently got a new computer and Medieval II Total War (Gold Edition) won't start on my new PC.... I keep getting the following error:

This error happens regardless of whether I play in Windowed mode, whether I try to play the main campaign or any of the expansion packs.

I've also used my license key to redeem the game on Steam as well to see if it's simply a problem with the old game, but the Steam version will only play if I run it explicitly in windowed mode (which I really don't like) and I'm not sure how to switch between the various expansion packs via Steam as well, so I'm only getting the main game on there anyway. I'm also having to start entirely from scratch again, i.e. not all the factions are available via Steam, but I guess that's a different issue.

I really like this game and it would sadden me if it's unplayable for me now. I've attached a DxDiag file, I'd be really grateful if someone could take a look and let me know what (if anything) is wrong, or what I could try to fix this.

It looks like the Dxdiag is only showing a basic Microsoft graphics adapter. Do your other TW games work OK?

Now that is another issue I was going to mention, but I was going to wait until after this one was sorted first. The other games, particularly newer ones such as Atilla, Shogun etc are VERY slow, often to the point where they're just unplayable or occasionally crash. I'm not really sure what is causing that to be honest.....

It's probably all part of the same issue - the missing graphics chip or driver. If they had been working I was going to suggest copying the preferences script from one of them into the Med II script folder to replace the existing one.

So I've checked my records and the above link, and it seems I don't actually have a dedicated graphics card - I only have "Intel HD Graphics CPU Dependent 1.7 GB max DDR4 Video Ram Directx 12". I assume, then, that by installing a dedicated graphics card, this may fix all of the issues I'm having?

Is there anything off-hand you would recommend that would nicely play or be compatible with both Medieval II and the newer ones such as Atilla?

There is a fair chance that the Intel HD graphics should allow you to play the games if you had drivers installed for it. It might be best to find the latest drivers and install them before trying to fit a dedicate graphics card, which may not even be possible (I'm no expert on notebooks).

Do you have preference scripts and gfx logs for each of the TW games that you could upload, please?
