Why is pushing through bad?

Hi, I'm new to playing Rome 2 on Multiplayer and on a few occasions during siege battles playing as the attacker people start going ape **** and shouting "stop pushing through". Why am I not allowed to attack as an attacker during a siege battle? or am I missing something? Is there an unwritten rule I'm unaware of similar to the 124 rule?

I genuinely want to know what is going on? it's kinda putting me off from playing online now because no one is really explaining properly why that is a bad thing.

basically you can pull through units. While it is kinda bad for ur unit to do it is very annoying for the opponent and is generally considered a **** move.
