Disdain of Dragons – All enemies who try to combat Miao Ying will find themselves at a significant disadvantage.
I love the sound of it.
While relatively rare, the ancient nature of the Dragon siblings means their many own progeny now exist within Grand Cathay.
Moment, moment, the Dragon-blooded can't transform. Is it just a game limitation, or are they the offspring of the Dragon siblings and *spits* humans?
On one the hand I would like generic Dragons, but on the other hand I like the idea of them all having unique models.
I am guessing that basically when Dragons go to pound town with the humans their progeny cannot transform into dragons or something. They get boosted abilities from their dragon blood and stuff, and probably long life, but can't transform I guess.
Those Dragons should read a book on how to keep their bloodline pure!
@CA_Andy, confirmation would be highly appreciated. Are Dragon-blooded pureblood dragons or part human?
think of it this way we could in theory get purify them and have dragon elf hybrids
I remember back when playing World of Warcraft on roleplay realms, and the worst-of-the-worst roleplayers would claim their characters were half-dragons, so they were super-special and super-powerful. In fact, the concept of half-dragons is typically met with derision because its absurd, so it's quite hilarious to see Cathay has gone down the route of chasing this kind of crap for its lore.
How far Warhammer Fantasy has fallen. It almost makes you want to embrace End Times.

True, if I were dead I wouldn't have to see any more of these posts.

I wouldn't be surprised if that's how GW retcon Caledorians affinity for Dragonsongs. What if Kalamemnon, Caledor Dragontamer's dragon companion was a 'she'. Maybe he did tame them in more ways than one.
So the storm dragon has access to the lore of life, not heaven? That is unexpected. What shall the jade dragon have then? After all life magic is called life magic
Great roster. My only complaint is that there are too few old units. I get that the Monkeymen and Hill Tribes are perfect for LP themes and the absence of Stone Dogs makes Nippon more unique (because both Cathay and Nippon had stone dogs), but really, where are the Monks, Horned Ogres, Crowmen and Ki-rin?
Cathay has like 1 more infantry unit, but for every new cool unit type, you can find a match with kislev.
Cathay artilely - grom. Terracota - giant ice bear. Snow lepoard - war compass. Sky units - war sleds. Logma riders - war bears. The rest are just different variants of infantry and cavalry that they both share. Only thing with no match is the LL dragons. I think cathay comes up slightly ahead, but it the difference is no where near what you are making it out to be.
Inappropriate Comment removed.
Kislev has 2 mount options for every single lord and hero, including the legendary ones, while Cathay has 4 different mount options, varying between its lords and heroes and the legendary heroes are their own dragon mounts, so to speak.
Kislev has 5 different infantry units - Kossars, Armored Kossars, Stretlsi, Ice Guard and Tzar Guard, 9 with variants (all but Stretlsi have 2 variations). Kossars and Ice Guard are armed with bows in both variations, Streltsi are armed with gunaxe and Armored Kossars are armed with pistols (in both variations). Tzar Guard are melee only (sword and shield and greatsword variants).
Meanwhile, Cathay has 3 melee and 5 ranged infantry units, 10 total with variants. And the ranged options include bows, crossbows, sniper rifles and shotguns.
Cavalry-wise, Kislev has the upper hand... on the ground. You have 4 melee options for Kislev (Winged Lancers, Gryphon Legion, Bear Riders and the stupidly named Dervishes) and 1 ranged cavalry in Horse Archers.
They also have 2 boring ass, ugly as all get out (this is purely personal aesthetic-based opinion, so if you like the look of those ugly-ass sleds, feel free to ignore this mini-rant) bear-pulled ice sleds.
Cathay has no ranged option, unless I missed something, but it's 3 melee optios offer a basic cavalry in Peasant Horsemen, sturdy cavalry in Jade Lancers and a flying shock cavalry in Great Longma Riders.
Their air dominance is further emphasized by their flying war machines - the Sky Lantern and the Sky Junk. Will mention these again once we get to artillery.
For SEMs it's somewhere between a wash and a point for Kislev between Kislev's Snow Leopards and Elemental Bears pitched against Cathay's Terracota Sentinels. It's 2v1 in Kislev's favor, but, to be fair, I don't know what to make of the Snow Leopards, as they don't seem to be in the same league as their larger SEM brethren.
And, finally, we have the artillery, that you so generously likened to one another.
Cathay pits its various artillery - the Grand Cannon, Fire Rain Rocket and an even more esoteric War Compass against Kislev's only piece of artillery - the "Large Thunder" (that, based on its description, may even be limited in number of units; and yes, I butchered the name on purpose).
And n top of the 3 artillery pieces mentioned above, Cathay's Sky Lantern and Sky Junk offer options that might, at least partially, fall into this category, all things considered.
I really don't think likening the Grand Cannon, Fire Rain Rocket and War Compass to Big Grom and the flying war machines to the war sleds, if a fair comparison.
On top of the list above, we should also take Kislev's extreme "bearderization" and corners being obviously cut when it comes to look of some units (war sleds and especially Tzar Guard) into consideration and, to me, the Cathay is the clear winner in this match up.
Also, there is less Dragons in Cathay than Bears in Kislev, and that's just funny to me
should that? Bears appear more common then dragons to me...
I just find it funny that the "land of dragons" have less dragons that Kislev have bears, when bears are supposed to be like, excessively rare because Boris taming one was seen as a symbol of favor from Ursun !
I honestly think that celestial dragon guard crossbowmen are a tad unnecessary. The jade crossbowmen already performs a similar role.
From what I understand by reading the text: Jade Crossbowman have just normal Crossbows(not 100% sure) and will perhaps not be armor piercing, while the Celestials have repeating crossbows( Like the DE), so a higher rate of fire and are armor piercing + have better survivability and are stronger in melee, so that is still different enough I think.
A great roster and the Lords and hero's are really interesting, nice to see Cathay fleshed out more.
does make me wish Kislev had more cavalry units and Lords/hero's/units to represent there God's Tor and Dazh, I think that would add a lot more diversity to them in a similar way.

Does that imply that bears are excessively rare or that most people don't survive taming them?

Well "land of dragons" doesn't have to mean that there are "tons" of dragon. Given that it is ruled by dragons, the exception in the WH world.
Even with taming one being hard. I still would rate bears more numerous then Dragons (which aren't easy mounts either). And old lore is old lore.

I think we can forget about the horned ogre since CA introduced mercenary ogres which can be recruited by all races.
I still want fast specialist unit tho eg. Monks or Jinyiwei (imperial secret police)

The lack of kung fu monks is dissapointing though.

Because Cathay and Kislev are actual races, while "monogod hordes" are a chaos patchwork. And if you want, you can change the perspective to Cathay: 2 Kislev: 2 Chaos: 1 (Khorne) +1 (Tzeentch) +1 (Nurgle) + 1 (Slaanesh) And there is still the 9th mystery LL, who is most likely also Chaos +1 (Undivided).
It is nice to get real news after Cathay trailer in september.
I really like Cathay unit roster. I just missing warhammer version of terracotta army and standard melee hero at launch.
Cathay looks like classic human noob friendly race. I think Cathay will be most popular race in Warhammer 3 just like High Elves and Empire in previous games.
Why are people so excited? The actual information you get from that reveal is rather low. Most of the units you have already seen, so it only serves as a confirmation that there is nothing more. And the information about the Ying - Yang system is rather vague. But basically its just "Have archers stand next to infantry". Yeah, that is worth $60 (not).

You get a full unit list and you are told if Yin units are next to Yang units you get a bonus. So you know all the troop types and the fact it is more efficient to field a mixed army.
Are they charging us $60 for a single minor concept or is there a full game included in that price as well?
Finally, love the designs of lords and Heroes, but not fan of Grand Cannon and Fire Rain Rocket looking the same.
The similarity in design is likely intentional so when GW makes the table top version you will be able to make either unit from the same kit. See also plague claw catapaults/warp lightning cannons, imperial mortar/imperial cannon, gorghon/cygor.
Not to mention we got a whole lot of fluff about the units. For us lore nerds who have loved the warhammer world since before these games were even a glimmer in the back of someone's head, that's gold.
And have you seen the pictures from the artillery of Grand Cathay?!
FIRE POWER!
I wish they where less similar.
