Viewing from the ranks

Hello,
I've heard that there is a way of being able to view a battle from the frontline by pressing alt and something else.
Is this correct and what are the keys if so?

Thanks

You can take the POV of an individual soldier by selecting a unit and pressing the Insert key. With your mouse wheel you can change between POV's of each soldier in that unit. To get back to the overhead view, press Insert again.

Be aware that, in Empire, the 1.4 patch has broken this feature, as when units fire, the bullet's-eye-view camera will freeze up, and you'll be forced to hit the Insert key again to exit.

Really? I don't remember it freezing. But then, I haven't used this camera view in ages.

It works perfectly fine in Napoleon, and worked fine in early versions of Empire. Now, though, it just freezes as soon as the projectile leaves the weapon of whatever you're viewing. Everything in the game continues in the background, but you're left with a freeze-frame of the battlefield.

Yup, if you haven't specifically set the automatic updates off.

I suppose I always make sure I zoom out from the unit before they get into range so I can manage my attack.
